What it Means to be Human – Homework Mini-Project

I think that “to be human” means to love and experience. In some ways, those concepts are the same thing.
With my first drawing, I knew I wanted to make something more abstract and fun, so I started with multicoloured ink washes before going in with water-colour pencils, pastels, and crayons. I tried to draw what I feel in my body when somebody really *sees* you. Like, when they describe something about you and you suddenly realize you’re bare in front of them. They’ve seen a part of you that was never hidden, but no one has ever spoken of it before. It’s a special moment.
I knew I wanted to draw a picture of some of my family, and this picture I took last summer is special to me. Babies are always precious additions to a family, and they remind me that “it takes a village”. Though I think this drawing shows more of my technical skill than the first one, I like the first one better because it’s more of a universal experience rather than a portrait.
