This was a very vulnerable piece to make, as it was based off of a photo of myself. I’ve never done a self-portrait of my body before- only my face- so this was a step out of my comfort zone. I am really proud of it though, so it was a step in the right direction in my opinion. I think I got the proportions right without changing anything, and I was able to choose a pose that allowed the entire figure to stay within the confines of the paper. I was thinking about something we had been talking about in class the week prior; creating tension between the figure and the edge fo the page instead of running off completely or leaving too much whitespace.
I’m especially proud of the toes- because of the bones, muscles, fat, and shadows on them, they were the most interesting parts to draw and the more satisfying to get realistic.
